I found these employee incentive/promotional programs to be a distraction from doing the work. Perhaps one man would upsell 3 cars worth of work but he could not do it all so one of the cars were sent to another mechanic. You would think that things could be split up like this (with one man’s upsells being sent to another man to complete) but this is the path taken for a problem repair. One guy sells a belt and the second guy does not agree the belt needs changing and it turns into a mess.

I was lucky to be able to save the engine on my 2013 Toyota Prius after being overfilled at Jiffy Lube or oil overfilling exacerbating the high mileage piston ring issues which are known for vehicles like mine, by doing complex DIY repairs and I took my time and did not rush. I also had all the right tools. I don’t have a whole lot of experience but I carefully did research on how to do things correctly. My repairs have proven a huge success.
Because the technicians were rushed, they overfilled the oil on my 2013 Toyota Prius which I call “Suzanne” and I didn’t realize it until 2,000 miles later when my car started having problems. Suzanne suffered from excessive crankcase pressure and her oil pressure switch got blown loose causing a messy oil leak that leaked onto the crankshaft position sensor electrical connector just below it. Oil got into the EGR as well. The oil degraded rapidly so I did a premature oil change, measuring out the oil carefully to my vehicle manufacturer specifications, replaced the oil pressure switch, cleaned sensors, etc. Given the results, my repairs have proven to be a great success despite not having any more experience than Jiffy Lube technicians. My car has over 200,000 miles on it, so piston rings could also be a contributing factor but the dipstick also read too high before I did the major engine repairs. I am not a professionally certified mechanic but I am a DIY enthusiast.

That is not really an AI system. All that’s doing is adjusting speed based on a radar/lidar system.

Well, now that this ancient thread has been resurrected here is a true story. Years ago my GF and I were talking oil changes. I mentioned that if you ever see the oil light when driving pull over right now! So years later she had moved up to Va Beach and had gone to a Jiffy Lube for an oil change. She called me and said: “remember when we talked about the oil light?” A day after she had the oil change the oil filter had a backed off and she lost all her oil and on came the light. She pulled right over! And saved her engine! She was a red head and I’m sure she gave the Jiffy lube a piece of her mind!
