He would not be the first person to try to get around a DUI that way. Most common though is driving a lawnmower. Are you suggesting red states are less likely to enforce dr*nk driving laws?
I dunno. Maybe less likely to call riding a horse a driving violation. In his final years my BILs dad bought a tractor and drive that out to th3 farm. The sheriff came and talked to him to convince him not to drive the tractor but never went any farther with it. Western Minnesota next to South Dakota.
What is the weight and age of the passenger?
19 and appeared normal size fir a teenager. The driver was a couple years older I think.
How long has that style of shotgun (feet up on dash) been around? Personally Iāve noticed it only the last 15 years or so.
Iāve never heard that referred to as a shot gun before. Like I said, I dont know the injuries that caused the teen death, maybe bled out for all I know. I just would expect a head on from a car over the center line to impact the drivers the most. But then I was taught to avoid a head on at all costs and take the ditch, a tree or pole or whatever, even a glancing side impact instead of head to head. Never had that though. A,ways managed to stop or get over far enough to avoid a hit.
I think he meant front, passenger side as āshotgunā, as in āI call shotgunā to avoid riding in rhe back seat or if in front, not riding in the middle. In my high school years, middle seat would usually be occupied by a girl, most of us had cars with bench seats.
Ok I get it. Like in a stage coach. Normally weād call that the co-plot or navigator position. At any rate feet on the dash is poor manners.
Not only does it constitute poor manners, but in the event of a frontal impact, the deployment of the airbag would almost surely lead to a dislocated hip, and/or broken femur.
For as long as I can remember. Donāt you ever put your feet up on the coffee table when sitting on your couch, or put your feet up on an ottoman, or recline in your easy chair?
Sometimes the passenger gets tired of sitting in a feet down upright position. Sometimes the passenger would rotate 90 degrees with their back against the door so they can engage in conversation with the people in the back of the car. Sometimes the engine might run hot when pulling a long grade and Dad turns the heater on high so you have to move your feet out of the way.
Some people canāt sit in the same position for hours on end.
Wow you use the modern terms! I thought youād be used the term āshot gun.ā
Yes, but those arenāt moving down the road at 50-70mph.
In modern vehicles with depowered airbags and 4kN unlimited spool load limited shoulder seat belts, a 180 pound man will move forward and bottom out the airbag before the dash of the vehicle smashes in by any significant amount. In a left side oblique crash, the passengerās shoulder can slide away and off of the seat belt as the load limiter allows the passenger to move forward.
Overnight a dui suspect whoād vandalized the state capital building drove on an access road onto a pedestrian bridge over capitol lake and Into the lake on the other side of the bridge at the park on that side of the lake. Photo taken awhile back when we walked that bridge. No damage to the bridge or trail reported. Late 00ās Chevy Malibu was the vehicle.
