Why does a shop manual have two separate brake bleeding procedures?

Is the method with the pro scan tool just for bleeding the ABS unit?

Do you need to open the solenoid with a scan tool if using one of those Motive pressure bleeder systems that attach on the master cylinder?

Also why is the bleeding sequence different in both?

I would like to use the Motive bleeder as I can never have someone (my own schedule is at fault too) available at the same time for the two person method.

If the brake system hasn’t been opened to replace a component, then normal bleeding is performed

If the brake system has been opened, then the ABS unit has to be bled also, which requires a scan tool.
