I probably didn’t state correctly….it definitely wasn’t a model called The Intimator ……it was in the advertising that they used the phrase.
IIRC early-era Dodge had a great very tough looking truck called the Power Wagon.
I have told my kids that if they ever see me driving under the speed limit to TAKE THE KEYS AWAY.
I think that “intimidator” description is more generic than just being something specific to a Dodge trade mark or the like. All sorts of things get labelled “intimidator” (including that Monte Carlo). It doesn’t change the initial point that was made regarding the label being about machismo and aggression. (Read as: men insecure in their manliness). The only “mistake” in this thread, I think, was to pin it to something specific like Dodge trucks.
We’ll said !
Around here it is not just men that like the big trucks but you will see a lot of pony tails driving them. Women seem to like being up high when driving and many prefer the suv and trucks.
I’m a male with a pony tail. And I’ve known many women who like to be high… (But I’ve never felt the need for a big “intimidating” vehicle.
This deserves to be marked as the solution to this thread (assuming you’re American).
I just don’t associate with men or women that like to be high. Just for the record.
Had a 19 year old woman, about 5’2”” tall, drove a lifted Dodge 4X4 with 35 inch tires. Yep, “girls” like them too.
Something like this, her’s was a standard cab, she went “muddin’” most weekends.
Many the contestants on “America’s Truck Night” contests are young women.
The title of this topic “Why Are American Drivers So Deadly?” is really misleading, it implies that Americans are horrible drivers, I am not saying our record is good, but it is far from the worse…
This list of countries by traffic-related death rate from Wikipedia might shed some light on this…
That’s a good chart. You can you monkey with the little arrows at the top of the columns to display the death rate ordered by country. I can vouch for Thailand being near the top. It’s quite a dangerous place to drive imo. Many of the countries with the lowest death rate are in Europe, including the UK, which sort of surprises me b/c many UK roads are relatively narrow two-lane, one in each direction.
More like 1/2 lane in each direction. Fear probably helps keep speeds and accidents down in the UK.
Heh.heh. I couldn’t find half of those countries on the map even with a magnifying glass. I suspect there may be a multitude of answers such as roads and stringent enforcement, even draconian loss of license etc.
I know we have hour restrictions for commercial drivers but one incident comes to mind. I don’t remember if it was German or France or Italy but our tour bus driver was licensed out of holland. We wanted to take a short evening excursion someplace but he flat refused to drive the bus. He said he couldn’t get back without exceeding his hours and he could lose his license. How would they know? He was being tracked and checked electronically throughout Europe. They knew how fast he drove and probably what he had for breakfast.
I will not make a political comment.
I remember the Lincoln Exhibitionist.
I googled “Lincoln Exhibitionists” and only came up with this reference, “Lincoln Avenue Exhibitionists”

Is this of what you write? Inquiring Minds Want to Know… L o L . . .
The low accident/death rate in the UK also surprised me too. I like to watch BBC TV shows as their plots are nowhere as predictable as the US TV Plots have become… But I am always amazed with the country lanes, one lane wide, and almost no vehicles in sight… I also watch the BBC Real Estate Show, “Back to the Country,” and the clients are driven around looking at homes for sale and they also show almost no traffic. Probably the price of gasoline is a contributing factor to a lot less joy riding…
Today, it’s about $1.86 (£1.46) for 1 liter (about 1/4 gallon) or just under $7.50 a gallon in the US…
