There are many things that when mass-produced…the price drops significantly. My company deals with custom made computer boards…The individual components and computer chip (Intel I5) aren’t anything special…but they are custom made (i.e. very limited production). The cost of these boards is anywhere from 10 to 50 times the cost of standard boards but without a few special features…And those special features don’t cost that much…but because they’re custom made…that really drives the cost up…WAY UP.
So maybe if the laser is mass produced the cost may be reasonable…I have no idea if it will be or not…
