I’m trying to figure out what might be wrong with my car. I drive a 2005 PT Cruiser. Some days when i first get in and start it up, half way down the street it will shift hard. once i get to a main road when I’m going about 30-40 when it shows almost 3rpms where it should be shifting back down, it doesn’t. It sounds as if it is in Overdrive and just keeps going up and up. It doesn’t always do it everyday. i have checked the transmission fluid recently and it’s at the right level.
If I were you I’d have a transmission expert drive it.
A fluid and filter change (cheap) might help the shifting, it might need to be rebuilt (expensive). You might be money ahead to pay the dealer diagnose it and take it for a second opinion to a transmission specialist.
