I can’t keep up with all the great improvements mentioned above. But I have done some custom work to my cars along the way. I added a push button start function to my current car, a vintage Corolla. Years ago my dad & I made a homebrew diy’er capacitive discharge ignition system for his truck. (Whenever it rained, the truck wouldn’t run after that … lol) What else? Oh, in my teenage years I made a homebrew windshield wiper delay control for my 62 Ford Galaxy. That came in pretty handy in Colorado weather. Oh yeah, another homebrew custom gadget I made was an alarm system for my truck.
Sound system Alpine stereo and Bose 4 speakers SWEET., and dream catcher from the rear view mirror made by Navajo Indians and blessed by an Indian chief, along with a Navajo rug in the closet, (
@GeorgeSanJose How did you make the wiper delay I sure could sure use one on my old truck’s 90 F150 & 82 dodge D 150?
It was a homebrew circuit I made. As I recall it used an variable resistor to control a transistor oscillator, and a relay. I mounted a L-shaped piece of metal as the control panel on the dashboard with an on/off button and a knob you’d turn to set the time delay interval. The wiper motor on that car turned on and made one sweep if two contacts were briefly bridged. That’s what the relay did. Not sure if it would work on newer cars. There must be something like that you can buy these days.
If there is somthing you can buy I never found it I asked a few mechanic’s & they said I would have to change the switch & motor.
search google for “windshield wiper intermittant” and you will find dozens.
This is very similar to what I did. If you are up to it, wire it up and give it a try. First make sure your car’s WW motor works like the one on my Galaxy, where it will sweep one time if you bridge two contacts.
Thank’s Bill will give that a try.
Speaking of dream catchers I get sent one or two every year from a South Dakota Indian school. I don’t know what to do with them. I think it’s illegal to put them in my car and for some reason I think it is bad luck to throw them away.
Comrade Bing, drowning in dream catchers
Never heard this, but, than, I’m not from Minnesota!
Re-gift them. Give them for birthdays and Christmas, or any time you feel generous.
that ford van/boat thing? it is RWD? how do they keep water out of the differential case and brake drums? of course that was years ago? i imagine that rig is long gone. reminds me of the new show called “diesel brothers”? the 2 goofy guys who rebuild army spec 6x6 rigs into oddball campers/tow rigs.
You can’t have rangy shiny things inside the car or at least by the windshield.
I’m also going to install start button for my car but I’m worried if I forget to lock the car, anybody can drive it away XD
Then don’t do it. How hard is it to turn the key anyway?
I don’t think I am the only one but I find Twitter speak annoying. This is not twitter so you can use all the characters you need to express your point. XD is at the top of my useless list.
Add a proximity switch that is part of the ignition switch. You carry a key fob that has to be in close proximity to the ignition switch. If the fob isn’t nearby, a circuit inside your ignition switch remains open. The entire system is available as a kit.
On my current Mustang: Ford Racing (Borla) sport exhaust, Ford Racing (Barton) short shifter, Steeda shifter bracket, Steeda shifter base bushing, Steeda transmission mount bushing, Ford Performance Stage 2 power pack. Switchback LED turn signals and an LED backup lamp. It’s still under warranty so nothing too crazy right now.
On my previous Mustang : Kenne Bell supercharger (plus supporting mods), Cobra-R spec brakes, Eibach sportline springs, Koni struts/shocks (adjustable), exhaust, Cobra wheels, Mach 1 grille delete and chin spoiler. 4.10 gears ( changed to 3.73’s once the blower went in, probably should’ve gone to 3.55’s). built up the rear axle as well, Steeda Tri-Ax short shifter, and an uprated clutch.
On my old Bronco : Dick Cepek 4 inch suspension lift , Powertrax rear locker, 4.56 gears, steering stabilizer, GT40, and intake manifold (from a wrecked Lightning), shorty headers, straight pipes.
On the TR6: We removed the body from the frame and fabricated some new crossmembers that had rusted away, installed a new clutch, redid the interior (new carpeting, new dashboard, new dash padding, new foam for the seats, new shocks up front (Konis) new rebuilt lever shocks on the rear, new top, traced down some electrical oddities, and more.
On my F-150: K&N cold air intake, catback exhaust, slightly larger than stock tires.
Old F-100 : Swapped out the stock the 302 for a slightly warmed over 390. Changed out the stock rear axle for another Ford 9 inch with 4.11 gears. Redid the exterior, and interior, new paint in and out, reupholstered the seat, new trim, in and out. Unfortunately we did not see fit to get a bigger radiator, so the truck had chronic overheating issues in very hot weather. Eventually (10+ years later ) a new larger radiator was fitted that fixed that issue.
81 F100 had bad 300 inline 6 cyl swapped out to a 84 chrysler new yorker 318.
Had a friend put a 360 into an mgb, suspension modifications needed, but that car was fast!, but always loved the mgc gt a 6 cylander engine with 5 speed transmission, 120mph switch into 5th my recollection, 2 days away from owning one, bank loans in those days were not what they are today.
