Certainly true but at the same time they aren’t even close to being equal in necessity. Perhaps if Walmart could spread their food and other commodity items over the golf course for people to shop for them, that would be better…but not realistic. I don’t see how you can compare a game to shopping for essential needs…

To ME Golf is MORE of a necessity. I can buy from on-line retailers almost everything I can get at WalMart.

Well, it is all about you…

You can get almost everything you derive from the game of golf in other ways…except the GAME aspect. That you can get online just like you are saying others can do their shopping. Try Golf Clash sometime…

I play golf with guys in their 70s and 80s. We get fresh air, exercise (and cardio exercise) for health, and vitamin D (needed to ward off viruses and illnesses). Some of these guys have lost spouses and need the camaraderie and definitely the exercise and air. It keeps them young and sane.

I’m not comparing it with grocery shopping, but the golf certainly is doing nothing to spread the virus, whereas I do have my doubts about entering a grocery store or Walmart. Besides, don’t forget, our governor has declared golf an "Essential Activity."

Without activities, people would wither up and die or turn into a “Hey, Get off my lawn” type person. It keeps my glass half full!

When this virus thing hit it looked like we’d be closing the golf course. One employee there quit immediately because his wife is quite ill and vulnerable and he didn’t want to take home the virus if he was exposed to it. Another woman employee quit because she didn’t wan to contract the virus.

The PGA pro/manager of the course was freaking out because he needed to earn money to feed his family and he had several employees depending on the course for their livelihoods. Revenues were way down because vacationers were staying away or leaving and going home. Others were afraid to come out of their houses. It was looking bad.

Then some sanity entered the scene and it was figured out how to stay open and keep the employees earning a living. Now business is picking up and the employees are protected.

Peoples’ lives, families, and jobs matter here. Golf isn’t just about the players. It’s a business, an employer. Shutting things down has very serious consequences as we will see in some places where folks have defied common sense and reasoning in favor of just demanding everything shut down.

but clearly only in Florida is this true…

Essential businesses and services are still operating everywhere…I don’t think there’s a complete lock down quarantine anywhere in the US right now, not even NYC

The governor of Michigan, for one, has ordered all golf courses closed. Peoples’ lives, families, and jobs matter there, too.

Never said they didn’t, I think my sarcasm went straight over your head

I hit the range a couple times a week. Going to the range is NOT the same as playing. Not even close. Great to get your game in shape, but not the same.

OMG, from my vantage point 5 floors up I just watched a young woman playing golf alone in my “front yard” on the golf course, walking and pulling a cart.

The problem is it’s 87 degrees, sunny and no wind and she had on long black pants and was wearing a face mask in the middle of nowhere! I watched her through my binoculars and showed my wife.

Granted, she was carrying a white parasol, but still…
it had to be very hot. She’s tougher than I am.

In my opinion, the 6ft rule is a joke, meant to placate the masses. When someone is smoking a cigarette, how far away can you smell it? Do you think aerosolized virus droplets just magically drop to the ground after traveling 6ft? I can even drive behind a car many car lengths ahead of me and smell various odors coming right into my vents, blowing in my face. Granted, the risk is less being outside but under the right conditions, 6ft might as well be 60…

Professional golfers have to wear long pants and quite a few wear black. I can’t golf in long pants no matter what, let alone when it’s hot outside…

I can smell someone smoking in the car in front of me. Especially cigars. And it’s one of my pet-peeves when golfing…CIGAR SMOKERS. There are so many rude and inconsiderate cigar smokers. Cigar butts all over the place. Long cigar ashes on the green. I had one cigar smoker come up to me while smoking. Before he had a chance to say anything I asked him to please stop smoking in my face. He thought it was funny and then blew smoke in my face…and then I slapped the cigar out of his mouth. The starter saw the whole thing and promptly escorted him and his party from the golf course. Personally I think smoking should be banned in ALL public areas.

Wow, I would have had the same reaction you did. No way I would let that pass. It’s basically an assault.

It’s amazing how noticeable smoking is now compared to when it was much more prevalent. Same with car exhaust. I kind of like the smell of partially burned gas from older cars and when you catch a whiff once in a blue moon, it’s kind of nostalgic. I certainly wouldn’t want to go back to those days however…

I remember back in the 60’s driving into the city on a beautiful sunny day…and then seeing the city in a cloud of smoke. Not fog…all from car exhaust. The air is a lot cleaner now…but still could be cleaner.

I’m the same way

One of my colleagues used to smoke cigars at work . . . outside, in an area where it was permitted

But he always reeked, to be blunt

Not only that, but the smoking eventually caught up with him

A few years ago, he was diagnosed with a cancer in his jaw. He had most of his teeth pulled, and part of the jaw removed. They weren’t even able to remove all of it, so I’m sure it’s shortened his life.

In the span of a few months he lost 80 - 100 pounds

he went from a big strong guy to a skinny weakling

When he was cleared to come back to work, a lot of people didn’t even recognize him. They literally asked “who’s the new guy”

To bring it back to vehicles . . .

We sublet some of our work to outside vendors, for various reasons

Anyways, when getting trucks back from a certain vendor, they always reeked of cigarette smoke. After pointing this out a few times to my supervisor, he got in contact with the vendor and complained. Whatever he said, it put a stop to the stench.

I have to wonder sometimes seeing the nomads in the desert wearing black, I have so much to learn.

My 44 year old bud died of pancreatic cancer, we did bike to work, and he was the straight arrow, never smoked, never drank, worked out, all the crap I am not guilty of, and he is dead. There are no guarantees, Every day is like this is good I woke up again and do not need a doc or pills except for d, b12 and eyecaps vitamins. And the hip replacement of course. So far.

Order clippers online from Walmart. May take a week or so for delivery–I’m waiting on mine to arrive.

Been doing that now for 20+ years. Got tired of waiting for haircuts and paying what worked out to $4 per minute for a cut plus tip. Made the mistake of buying a cheap one first, died after about two years. Had the second one ever since…

I worked with a co-worker who also smoked cigars…but this was when you could smoke at your desk. I was so glad when smoking was finally banned from work and other public areas.
