Warped Rotors and Wheel Bearings

For the last three months, I’ve had a front-end shimmy when applying the brakes. It usually happens at highway speed. I suspect it’s a warped rotor. I jacked up the car, checked the front wheels and neither one of them had any horizontal or vertical play. I had the steering rods replaced last year. About a month ago, I heard a loud humming noise coming from the front end. My left front bearing had to be replaced, which solved the humming noise. My question is, could a warped brake rotor cause a wheel bearing to wear and get damaged?

I think the bad bearing is more likely due to the age/mileage on your Buick. It’s at least 20 years old and you didn’t tell us how many miles are on the car.

No. More likely the other way round. Bad bearing causing the warped rotor.

Agree with above, and GM was not known for their long lasting hub bearings, especially ones with ABS, a friend of mine found water following the ABS wire into the bearing and contaminating the grease and eventually damaging the bearing…

You didn’t tell us how long these rotors have been on the vehicle, pad slapping just allows the rotors to wear past there discard spec and become unable to dissipate heat and therefore warping… I have pulled many new rotors out of the box and found them to be warped also…I have machined tons of new rotors to true them up before installing…

I always wonder about this.
Aside from the low-cost rotors, are there some brands more prone to this than others?
