Sunday night, left church and car would not start. Clicked but no activity. Jiggled the wires and car started right up. Battery was 5-6 years old and with winter approaching, I bought a new battery from Sears and asked them to make sure there were no electrical problems and to clean off the connections. On Friday night from work, stopped at a store, car started no problem. Stopped at a gas station about 10 minutes later; car would barely turn over. Somebody mentioned it was probably a battery connection was bad. Got the car jumped and it started right up. Drove home. Pulled in the garage; turned it off and tried to start again. Same thing. Next morning, I went out to check it out and the car started. Checked back later in the day and the car started three times in succession. Since I’m not a mechanic, can someone advise what might cause a car to just click AFTER the car has been running for a while. Have been reading some other discussions and noticed that some have taken similar issues to dealers and have had trouble duplicating the problem and testing showed no issues. Any suggestions before I begin that process? Thanks!
By Definition, A Cable Has Two Ends. Have both Ends Of Battery Cables Been Cleaned / Checked ? How About Engine And / Or Transmission Ground Straps ?
Next time it won’t start try using just one jumper cable (humor me and use the black one). Make sure you connect to just the negative ( - ) terminal on the battery and a good clean place (ground) on the engine block. You’ll create a second ground wire.
If it cranks right up, you’ve got a ground wire / strap problem.
