I just bought a 1987 VW Cabriolet. I had my mechanic check it out and he said “buy it!” I took it to work yesterday only to relaize we had missed the fact that the speedometer and the odometer do not work at all. Is this an easy fix?
It depends on why they are not working. I don’t recall when they went to electronic gauges, but if you still had the old mechanical speedometer, then you likely need a new cable. Cheap and usually easy. At least it was easier in the older VW’s. It is one of the newer electronic types then it is more likely the sensor or wiring. Also not all that expensive.
