My dealer recommends replacing the subframe bushings on my 2003 S-60. $600+ for the job. 151K miles. Is this a common problem?
Front-wheel drive Volvii consume front-suspension bushings at a fairly good rate. You may be able to get a better price at a good independent specialist Volvo mechanic - the parts are fairly cheap, but there is a fair bit of labor involved. They’re basically a wear item. If you’ve owned the car since new, and haven’t replaced them yet, I’d say you’re overdue.
You might try asking over at one of the Volvo forums - I’m a member of Swedishbricks.net (email based), but brickboard.com and turbobricks.com also have good advice. Turbobricks is a little more performance-based.
