i have a 1997-nissan pickup,2.4 liter engine,i want to replace. the valve cover gasket,do i need to put anything on the gasket,to seal it.or not.i know back in the old days, you had to put a sealer on the gasket.i have never replace this gasket,so i don’t know if it rubber or not.
I never use sealer on any valve cover gasket except a dab here and there as an installation aid to hold it in place. It should not be necessary to help seal it.
You need sealant in whatever places a manual tells you to use it. If the gasket is all rubber and fits into a slot on the cover, you probably don’t need sealant. Some of the old days are gone.
