We should add not only is the deduction often worth very little, because of past abuses where people claimed WELL over the actual value of the car, the IRS now limits you to claiming whatever the charity can get for it if they auction it or a fair market value if they use it and don’t sell it.
Fair market value for a Montero in this condition is scrap value. If it was in good condition, you’d probably be able to claim about $5300. In this condition, I’d bet you’re looking at $4000+ in repair costs just to get it to good condition. In other words, scrap. Sorry.
If it went to auction, even in fair condition, it would likely still only fetch $750-1000. Without repairs, it won’t sell for one cent over scrap value in auction.
