Unnecessary car "honks" when using remote to unlock door

I suppose about 1957, visions of my mom running down the driveway screaming at the sight of a garden snake. I did what I could.

Is it possible they are using their remote start?

My experience with remote start is limited to rental cars, but I have driven different makes and models and they all have the same double toot from the horn right before the engine starts.

Otherwise, I donā€™t think thereā€™s any car that Iā€™ve ever driven where the vehicle honks the horn when using the remote to unlock the doors?

The horn will usually honk on the second press of the lock button on the remote. The first time simply locks the doors and arms, the security system and flashes the blinker lights to confirm. A second press immediately after will do that again plus honk the horn.

So if itā€™s not remote start, and usually canā€™t be from the unlock, which means they are just repeatedly pressing the lock button. Right before they go for a drive.

If my neighbor did that, I would definitely have a chat with them about that.

Fortunately, I have an HOA thatā€™s pretty proactive about this. They definitely have the power to fine for things like this, but they usually will start out with a general notice or put up signs in the elevator just to remind everyone to be neighborly. And please refrain from excessively tooting or beeping in the a.m. hours.

If that doesnā€™t work, then they will take the more direct approach starting with a warning letter.
