Turns over but just won"t start?

The vehicle just shut off while driving. This happened 4 times before, over about a 2 month period, but would restart after a few minutes had past. With plenty of gas in the tank, new plugs, wires, rotor, coil, and fuel filter, still no action. 1987 Ford Ranger, 2.3L F.I. I am getting fuel all the way up into the schrader valve. COULD SOMEBODY PLEASE GIVE ME A CLUE AS TO WHERE TO LOOK NEXT.

A few years back, my Dad had an 88-89? Ford Tempo with the 2.3. Just before he traded it, the engine was shutting down randomly. I believe the problem was with the inertial switch designed to shut off the fuel pump in the event of an accident. The reset button was through a hole in the right kick panel. It might be worth checking out.

Another thought, I had a 91 Taurus with a bad fuel pump that would stop after 45 - 60 minute of driving. It took about 45 minutes before I was able to start the car again.

Good luck,

Ed B.
