It’s a typical issue of any 30 year old economy car.

I was getting my 1959 Fiat 1200 sedan serviced at a Fiat Mercedes dealer in Cleveland and, disregarding the “employees only” sign, wandered into the service area. There was a whole row of Mercedes Benz with the trunks open and the tops of the rear shocks poking loose in the trunk.
I’m sure the had a service kit to weld in new towers just like vw had for the bumper supports. Less than $10 if I recall from the smiling counter guy. Welding not included.
