From 0 to 40 the engine revs up before it shift to the next gear. Once it hits 40 it drive fine. Is it the timing belt or the transmission?
It is a 1998 Honda with 110,000 miles

Has the computer been scanned for codes?? If not, thats where you need to start. Take it to one of your local auto parts stores, they usually will scan the computer for free. If there are any codes, write down the code and description. If no codes are present, you are probably going to have to go a step further and have a trans shop scan and monitor live data to see whether the computer is commanding the shifts at the right time or whether the problem is mechanical.
