I have a 2000 Saturn SL2. The reverse works only when the car is cold. Once the car is warmed up the reverse doesn’t work. Is there anything besides getting a new transmission, I can do.
Whatever you can do comes at popular (to the shop) prices. Rebuilding the transmission may be the only thing that will fix it.
Are all the forward gears working okey? Is there any slippage in any of them, especially 2nd or 4th? Can a person outside the car hear a click as you shift into reverse warm? Get back to us with additional information.
Alternately, have a transmission technician look at the problem and do a line pressure check especially while in reverse working and not working. His diagnosis should point toward the area of concern and whether the transmission has to come apart.
Hope that helps.
