My automatic transmission is on its death bed. I have received two recommendations from different repair shops. My trusted mechanic who I have used for a number of years recommends replacing my transmission with a rebuilt, used transmission versus having a transmission shop overhaul the transmission that is in the car now. The costs of each are about the same.
Anybody have some advice for me?
If the costs are about the same, I would lean with a rebuilt. You should also get a bit better warranty than with the overhauled one. Ask first and see what the answers are.
Is there any sort of warranty on the rebuilt transmission?
How long can you live without the car? It seems to me that a rebuild will take more time since the current transmission has to be removed from the car anyway. A rebuilt transmission can go in right away.
