Transmission Fluid Type

I have a 1993 ford taurus 3.8L V6 automatic GL. Can you tell me what type of automatic transmission fluid I should use in my car?

Remove the transmission dipstick. Sometimes it states on there what type of fluid to use.

The dipstick might be outdated. If you know what transmission you have, you can check here:

If the Stick or manual says Mercon, Ford has switched to Mercon V for all Mercon applications. It should work better than Mercon.

Under no circumstances use Ford Type “F”; that was developed for older type Ford transmissions. Go with the type in your manual, or ask a reputable transmission shop. The quality of has gone up with the newer types of MERCON. On the can it will say what type of Ford cars and transmissions it will be suiitable for.
