I had my 2001 eclipse transmission fixed/reconditioned. Now my car smells awful like burning transmission fluid. The mechanic says it is just fluid that spilled on the engine burning off. It has been over 150 miles since the repair and it still smells. Worst, it smells inside the car. Am I just poisoning myself? (I leave the window open to prevent that possibility.) What is causing the smell?
What is causing the smell?
It is just fluid that spilled on the engine burning off.
Depending on where it is you might be able to clean it off to reduce or eliminate the problem.
BTW the fact that the mechanic is right about the cause, does not change the fact that it appears he did not properly clean up after his work. It is also possible that there are other problems with it. From here it is not easy to tell.
