Correct.
Frankie Valli (and possibly the Four Seasons) 1978 “Grease” from the movie soundtrack.
It was an attempt at levity when someone asked why more grease was needed. So I responded with the end-of-song fade away…

Well thanks a lot. Now I’ll have surfer bird running through my head all night. I’ll probably even have to u tube it when I get a chance. (Just kidding)
Who would remember things from 1978? That might be when that rusty trailer was manufactured.
I do.
1978 is still less than 50 years ago, not 500 years ago.
Oh gee, maybe did it again. Forgot the 1963 history of surfin bird. WDGY was the local teen radio station and Bill Diehl was its famous DJ. He watched the popularity of the song at dances and convinced the Minneapolis band the trash men to record it. They were later sued for stealing it which is probably why it’s not readily available.
When I left for South Dakota in 66, I missed the whole WDGY scene a lot.
From the movie:Grease
In 57-59 lived in Wisconsin, our school bus (wonder how loud thunder will misconstrue that term) drivers had WDGY on the radio. As I recall WDGY (Wee Gee) transmitter was around 50,000 watts. Then we moved to Minneapolis, WDGY’s main competition was KDWB. Nearly every car radio in the Twin Cities had the same buttons set to the same stations. The only three I remember were WDGY, KDWB, and WCCO. When cruising when a commercial came on WDGY, the person riding shotgun was responsible for changing the station to KDWB. Again when cruising we might listen to the Country music station. Whereas in Japan, SE Asia, and the Philippines all the cars were tuned to the military Far Eat Network. Actually I don’t know about cars in SEA, only our unit commander had a car!
To bring it back to trailers, we had a tent camper then upgraded to a travel trailer.
Another movie that I have not seen and the reference by the tire guy was not really funny.
Would you laugh at the clumsiness of Inspector Clouseau in one of Blake Edwards’ ‘Pink Panther’ films?
