Toyota's sales

I heard on the radio today that Toyota’s 2024 sales are lagging its competitors. Appears to be mostly caused by problems outside the USA, but USA sales seem unimpressive as well. For folks here who were looking at buying a 2024 car, do you care to share your Toyota advantages/disadvantages list?

More of a world sales issue, not a US sales problem.

“Toyota even struggled in the U.S., which has been a bright spot for the company for much of the year. Toyota’s U.S. sales are still up 6.2% year on year for 2024 thus far. Yet the carmaker’s U.S. sales fell 20.3% in September compared with a year ago, which it blamed on recalls and Hurricane Helene.”

No I do Not.

I recall seeing a European review of the Camry about a year ago. Camry sales were also dismal there too.

Uk sales in the final year were 271, compared to more than 271,000 sold in the US. Pricing was much more than we pay in the US and I suspect it was competing with BMW and Mercedes sedans at the UK price, it was the same reason the Camry failed in the UK in 2003 when it was predicted to loose most of the $40,000 USD equivalent starting price as a 3yr old car.

The data from this site shows Toyota holding its own quite well.

That’s good to hear. I’m a Toyota fan.

I think Toyota made a big boo boo with the new Camry’s in not having a version that has a straight ICE engine but instead making them all Hybrids . People don’t want that complexity . They already cost a fortune to fix without all the added cost and complexity . They also made a boo boo not having V6’s in the new Tacoma and the Tundras I do not believe you can get a /8 anymore either . Stack that on top of them having engine issues in the V6 turbo Tundras and transmission issues in the Tacomas doesn’t help either .

On the other hand, Toyota seems to be on-target choosing to focus on hybrid electrics rather than 100% electrics. It definitely seems a tough time for the car manufacturers trying to formulate their marketing plans.

Toyota’s reliability problems don’t help either. See the link below. I didn’t realize that Toyota made so many big mistakes.
