I think it probably actually is coming from the valve cover gasket. Just the part you can’t see is all. On my Corolla anyway, the area that seem to leak is where the valve cover gasket gets involved with the camshaft, both at the front and the rear of the engine. In your case it is the front part that is the problem. On the 4afe engine anyway, Toyota calls for a special-purpose rtv sealant be placed at that location, when installing a new valve cover gasket, to prevent it from leaking there. It actually leaks behind the timing cover, but migrates from there due to the robust airflow in the engine compartment.
