Toyota Fourunner Starting Problem

My 1996 Toyota Rourunner 4 cylinder SUV will not start after warming up in hot weather. The engine turns over and you can smell deiseling but it won’t start. It must cool down 20 minutes prior to restart. The dealer has tried various cures from replacing a cracked exhaust manifold to cleaning sensors in the air intake. Nothing works. Two people have suggested this is due to a bad solenoid. The car is unreliable as is. What suggestions are out there to cope with this?

Make sure you have the correct spark plugs for that engine.

Keith,

Thanks for the tip. I am on the road right now but will check this later. I’ll try anything.
