Good battery but when ignition is engaged by key, sometimes it makes a noise like Sheunk and then no more sound as we continue to turn the ignition on. Lights and everything work fine but the starter won’t engage the engine.
Is this a starter problem?
On Toyotas this is usually a starter/solenoid problem. The contacts in the solenoid swithch get worn down to the point where the contactor will not connect the battery to the starter windings. Google ‘toyota AND starter AND contacts’ to get a more detailed description. The cheapest fix is to replace the contacts. The quickest fix is to install a rebuilt or new starter.
