How do I determine if I can tow a Jeep Wrangler with a 2002 Ford Explorer? I would like to load the jeep on a dolly about 750 miles on highway, some hills but no mountains.
Read the owner’s manual. It will tell you how much weight the Explorer can safely tow. Then determine whether or not the Jeep is within the safe range.
Depending on engine and tranny options the Explorer is either rated as a Class II or Class III.
HOWEVER…Every FACTORY trailer-hitch I’ve ever seen on a Explorer is Class II…even if it has a V8 with an automatic (Class III).
