80k miles already needed a new head gasket(@ 40k) and new rack
and power steering pump. Am I just unlucky?
You are unlucky in the power steering rack and pump went early, but the head gasket issues have been going on for many, many years with 4 cylinder Subarus.
They keep saying thet they fixed the head gasket problems as of a certain date but the date keeps advancing.
I am surprised no one has won a class action lawsuit by now.

That’s what they told me at the dealer, that the head gasket issue has been fixed. Hope so as our family also has a 2016 Forester as well
