To heat or not to heat the car seat?

I use the seat heater to provide some warmth before my F-150 gets its heater temp up. It took a surprisingly long time this winter to get that heat and I was grateful for the warm tush.

Its really quite simple- youll find that the women who want a seat heater are pretty soft on the rear quarters. The men who want a seat heater generally dont even have a booty.

Fat is less dense than muscle. The higher fat ratio, the greater rate of heat loss, and they complain. I used to drive a certain German brand of car that had the heat controls in the center console between the seats. As a joke, sometimes I would turn it on just to see the passenger squirm. The looks on the faces of older ones was priceless.

On a serious note, though not scientific, after many many years of cars and having various people (women mostly) in the passenger seat, Im convinced its due to the muscle mass. People with more muscle mass do not need it as much, and dont even mention it. Those who are either flabby or just have no booty at all, will often ask if there is a seat heater.

I drive an oil burner. During the worst part of winter, the engine doesn’t produce enough waste heat to really warm the interior within 30 minutes of driving.

If I had to give up the heater vs. heated seats - I’ll give up the heater.

I live in Montana also and used to use the dog but she finally died. The new one is too smart to get in the car until it is warm. I am old enough that sperm count doesn’t matter, (I don’t need any more kids or grand kids )but my hips and back ache, so I’ll take the heated heated seats any time.

My 07 HHR heats the lumber as well as the base of the seat. I like the seat warmer, but after 3 lower back surguries, I absolutely LOVE the lumbar warmer. I use it even on hot days with the A/C blowing in my face!

I have never had (and never will have) heated seats. But I often travel for business, in NYC, and my coworker there, Henry, has heated seats. I sit, of course, in the passenger seat, where his otherwise lovely wife, Luisa, generally leaves the seats on “5” or whatever the highest number is all winter. After about 10 minutes in the car, i am dripping, and my butt is burning… i hate it!

I’m not interested in heating my bum, BUTT I would be interested in COOLING my bum while driving… now, I would be all FOR changing the temperature of the seat… AC Seat.

I’m female and the way I see it, heated seats equals one more useless fancy contraption I’m going to feel the need to fix when it eventually breaks, because it will. That’s why I don’t like them.

I was indifferent to seat heaters until this past January. My sister moved to Boise, ID and my job was to drive her husband’s Passat from Oklahoma City to Boise. The car had no heater whatsoever. “No big deal”, I thought. I had no idea it was about to be the coldest week of the winter. Through snow storms and temps dropping to 15 below zero, a 2 day road trip took me 5 days. The one thing that I think saved my butt was seat heaters.

Big Jim and the Twins always appreciate comfortable surroundings. A warm seat when the temp outside is in the minus range is very nice. When it’s that cold out, I’m not worried about spawning anyway, so the arguments for / against sperm action fall on deaf ears / body parts.

My wife loves them, a must in a vehicle. I have no need for them (WE LIVE IN FLA!!). What I dislike most is when she turns mine on attempting to be nice, and I don’t notice untill it’s too late! Terrible option

my husband got me heated seats for Christmas 2 years ago - AMAZING - and installed them under the cloth… and the men on the list don’t want to hear why I like my heated seats best!

I have a Lexus that has a dial to supply heat or a cool breeze to the seat. I use it all the time. In the winter, the seat heats up far faster than the coolant that supplies the heat from the vents. In the summer, the cool air coming from the seat relieves the heat from the leather seat. My wife doesn’t use this feature nearly as much as I do. I would never buy a car without a tuchus warmer.

Geez, what’s the problem?
Winter: car seat heat - good.
Summer: car seat heat - bad.

I have arthritis and sciatica that together give me almost as much pain in my butt as listening to your show. Having a heated seat helps with the first two sources of pain, but not the third. The last thing I need is a couple of meatheads calling me a sissy because I need medical treatment. Unfortunately I couldn’t get my health insurance to pay for the heated seat. Those guys are just as idiotic as you two.

I am from Mumbai, India,

air conditioned seats would be better - unless someone wants roast rump!

heaters are on leather [cold ]seats, turn on to warm it then turn off and the heat from your body will keep it warm.

I have lower back problems and drive long distances in my car and rentals quite often. I love getting rental cars with heated seats because I love heated seats. If my back starts acting up, I can turn on the seat heater and it helps my back quit acting up. No I have no idea what it does medically, but it helps me out even in summer. Love them and my next car will have them.

Can’t vote, I’ve never had a car with heated seats. That said, I’ve never wished for them either (or remote car starters to preheat the car, for that matter). I do insist on cloth seats on my car, but that’s mainly to keep from leaving skin behind in the summer.

I think the problem is that people get used to being in warm places all the time, and their bodies just can’t take it. I do lots of stuff outside all winter, from bike riding to sledding, and the cold doesn’t bother me. I’ve heard from friends who have moved to warmer climes that after a few years in Florida or Texas, they can’t stand even mildly chilly temps anymore. I’d guess the same would be true if you got used to being in a warm house, heated seats, etc all the time.

I’m new here, but this thread is already beginning to annoy me. If it’s that cold outside, dress for the weather. We’ve already heard from someone in Florida who uses heated seats.
