I have a 2000 Lexus RX300 AWD, I have a shimmy at speeds of 60 mph and over. I was reading a forum where this issue was discussed and the answer was the Michelin Cross terrain tire. (i had it checked and all other possiblities were cleared) Is there a tire that may be cheaper but comparable to this particular tire? P225/70-R16 is my size…
You really need to get an answer from the folks who declared Michelin Cross to be the solution. Most of the people who regularly post to this forum would tell you that you need possible repairs: perhaps ball joints, bushings, alignment, wheel balance, or whatnot. Maybe you can give us more details?
You should not consider a particular brand of tire or set of new tires as the solution to a shimmy. A shimmy, or vibration, can be caused by any one of a number of things; tire balance, faulty tire, loose wheel bearing, worn suspension part, bent wheel hub or wheel, or possibly an alignment problem.
