Thermostat 89 GMC Rally

I am trying to remove the thermostat from an 89 GMC Rally. I got one side off but not the other because there are a couple of braces using the same post that the thermometer housing is on. One brace holds up the oil dipstick tube and moved off easily; the other is holding a part that I have not identified. Pictures here: http://www…therm.html



Any suggestions?

Figured it out. I had to remove the belt tensioner.
