Theft Prevention

Who knows a pretty fool proof way to keep your car that’s parked on the street from being stolen without paying hundreds/thousands of dollars for alarms, boots, steering wheel locks, etc. I’m thinking of something akin to pulling out some important wires at night that can be easily replaced in the morning or perhaps taking the battery out and putting it in the trunk. NO IDEA TOO OUTLANDISHED!..thanks heaps from an alternate-side-of-the-street soul…

One thing you can do is get a car that is stolen less frequently. Park Avenues are no longer sold new, but you can still get a Grand Marquis. There are some others that will work. The insurance industry has lists.

A kill switch can be installed pretty unobtrusively. Consider this type of installation:

I suggest a hidden mechanical fuel shut off. Have it installed so you can get to it easy and turn it off when you park, Remember to turn it back on when you drive. It should be handy but not easily visible. If someone wants to steal your car, they can. They will get a few hundred yards to a mile or so and the car will stop in the middle of the street and they will have no idea why. They are not likely to hang around, they just leave it.

Use a 12V momentary switch connected to the starter wire. Find the starter wire from ignition, wire in switch where it can be reached when starting although hidden. The car only starts when button is held in and key is turned. Beware this works on models without fancy security features.

What make and model are you driving?

Many new cars come with anti-theft systems as standard equipment. Personally, I don’t care. If someone steals my car, they are welcome to it. I never want to see it again.

I’m not kidding. I love my cars, both of them, and I certainly wouldn’t want to lose either of them, but if one of them were stolen I would NEVER want to see the car again. Give me a settlement check and I’ll go car shopping.

I would never spend a penny for “additional” car security. Park it in a garage if you’re worried about it. Otherwise, forget it. Park it wherever you want, and sleep well. It’s a CAR. They make more every day

The easiest and most effective is just wiring in a $5 switch to the fuel pump wire. Put it in an unabtusive place where only you know its there. When the switch is off, the car will crank but won’t run. You can back it up with a $300 alarm system from Best Buy to discourage tampering, but the kill switch will keep the car where it is unless they tow it away.
