I just think it’s a shame that you have to be filmed to “merit” a free truck and money from strangers
There’s a lot of other unfortunate people out there who don’t get any handouts from strangers because few people know about the situation(s)
To keep it car-related . . .
Several years ago, the neighborhood council was openly wondering how to help families in the community who weren’t doing so well
I suggested pooling our resources and buying a reasonably priced used car, fixing it up . . . that would have been ME . . . and donating it to the chosen family. And after that, the family would have been responsible for everything else on their own, as related to the car
We were talking a plain-jane vehicle. Think older Taurus, Caravan, Malibu, etc.
Minneapolis, or maybe it’s in St.Paul-it’s right on the border, has such a program. I don’t remember the name anymore but is a semi-private operation I believe. Donate a car and they use it to train kids fixing it up. Then it goes to someone needing a car. I’d drive by there quite often and they looked busy. I don’t know how it is doing now.
The award does nothing to discourage the YouTube generation from driving straight into a tornado. The kid receives a new truck to replace a 20-year-old truck, he doesn’t need a 4-door truck to drive to a hamburger restaurant.
Back in 2017 there was storm that some thought was a tornado but was what’s known as a microburst, high winds running straight instead of funneling. Co-worker lost her '04 Dodge Durango when the oak tree that had stood for at least 100yrs fell over in maybe 15sec luckily missing the house. They made all the local news but insurance did cover this. She bought a Rav4 because she was thinking about downsizing anyways.
