Manyears ago the speed limit there was 70 before Colorado was Californicated.
70 would be nice again.
Yes, some drivers are probably now pushing 65 to 80+.
But many are probably happy at 65. Wife and I are.
A few years ago I complained to DOT that 55 mph I-225 was too slow.
Now posted 65 which apparently means 85 to many.
Suggesting someone change how they drive to satisfy other drivers? Major no-no.
If I did as you suggested, I’d be breaking the law along with the rest of them.
Something has to happen to change the culture that regards posted speed limit as the speed minimum. I don’t know what it will take, or what combination of things.
Yeah I saw that the other day. A pick up pulling a trailer with lawn equipment going 55 in a 60. Another car behind but with a space. Third car coming up and took a chance to pass and barely made it. There are hills and curves so not many opportunities to pass, especially two cars. If you aren’t going to pass, at least allow a couple car lengths in front so that ya don’t have to pass two cars at a time. I did that once on that road, punched it down and as I sailed past the second car I hit 90.
I won’t get into my disgust with the Minnesota DOT and their spending habits. Maybe later.
Oh, if only every other driver had your ability to see the future, to know the intentions of all drivers around them and the Super-Human ability to control your vehicle in all circumstances; there would be no more accidents, no more injuries, and no more road deaths…
I have done that in Nevada, visibility is 5 miles + on desert highways. No reason to block the through lane when there are only two vehicles on the road.
That is not an unusual maneuver on Western roads. When exiting onto a gravel crossroad, it is necessary to slow to 10 mph. I don’t want a commercial truck to make a panic stop behind me while I prepare for a turn.
That is very common behavior here in Rural Indiana as well. There problem is if you don’t do that I’ve had enraged rednecks pass you while you are trying to turn left into a driveway.
Two lane road or state highway, double-yellow line divided, one lane going, for example, north and one going south.
I’m travelling north along the above road, and up a half mile on the left is either my driveway or the side road I intend to turn on to.
Now, are you suggesting that within, say, 300-400 feet of my left turn, assuming the oncoming southbound lane is clear as far as the eye can see, that I would signal and move over into the south-bound lane to decelerate in anticipation of committing my left turn?
Exactly . Its so common here that its almost expected of you. If some redneck in a jacked up pickup is behind you and you dont they will get within a foot of your bumper and almost hit you, most are in a big hurry to go nowhere.
Well, if it’s within the scope of Indiana (or which ever state) law to conduct a left turn across a road in that manner, then fine.
If it’s not, then I will gradually slow down but stay in the northbound lane, again, from posted speed limit, until I’m at a speed safe enough to commit the left hand turn. Assuming I don’t have to wait for any on-comers.
If someobody behind me, or in a group of vehicles behind me, loses their temper and starts firing buckshot from their vehicle, or goes around me with one-finger salutes and seven words you can’t say on television, then obviously they’re the ones that need a check-up from the neck up.
I don’t believe it is legal at all here. The problem is everyone does whatever they want and there is no law enforcement. Its a free for all on the road and everything else.
Im not going to get into it here bit look up “Indiana Housekeeper Whitestown” then read the comments on the story. Lots of people defending the guy. Its shoot first ask questions later here. Global warming isn’t real, lgbtq people don’t have a tight to exist, covid wasn’t real, the jab was going to brainwash you into voting Democrat (even though Trump pushed it thru via operation warpspeed), I have the right to do whatever i want and forget everyone else, MUH FREEDUM, MUH GUNS, MUH TRUCK
Most ignorant people on earth live here in Indiana
I don’t believe driving on the wrong side of the road is permitted. However, if I don’t get out of the way and struck from behind by an 80,000 lb. truck, the Nevada State Patrol will arrive within an hour to rescue me and extinguish the fire. The speed limit on some two-lane roads is 70 mph.
I’ve reached an age where I wish all vehicles were physically limited to posted numbers, but honesty requires my admission that a half-century ago I was the guy on the motorcycle.
Yes, you can see the future!
In reaview mirror you can see who will soon arrive athe intersection.
You can see who is ahead and right and left and will arrive athe intersection.
So far I have managed to miss hitting every non-existent vehicle.
And the truckers are glad to maintain their 65-70 mph speed coming down the slight descent and slight ascent after the intersection.
Imagine how many milliliters of diesel fuel saved!
Chris the Tire Whisperer has absolutely no obligation to exceed the speed limit. I had been a lifelong speeder. WhenI was working, I was paid by the mile. If that is not asn incentive to speed, nothing is. No mastter how much faster I wanted to go, I always recognized that my desire to speed conferred no obligation for anyone else to do so. That is what passing zones are for on two lane roads.
My only beef was with tractor trailer drivers who were so afraid of dark winding two lane roads fith no edge or crnter line that were 55 mph speed limits and they were driving 40 because they had so many extra lights on their trucks that they were destroying their night vision, they also mostly all smoked which also diminishes night vision.
I was once pulled ove in Mount Morris NY for going 32 in a 30. They were trying toforcr trucks to bypass the town by staying on route 63whih added 3 miles to the trio. What they did not understand was that union class 1 carrier drivers could be fired for being “off route”. Before deregulation, trucking companies could lose their rights to haul freight if they did not follow the approved route.
These days, because of diminished eyesight I no longer feel confident enough to pass a car safely on a two lane road with short passing zone so I stay back far enough so the faster traffic can pass us one at a time and if traffic behind me builds up I will look for a spot topull off on the shoulder to ley them by.
