The New York Times reported today that the price of Lithium has dropped 20% from January until today. This should result in a lower cost for batteries and a consequent reduction in the cost of electric vehicles.
I would not count on them passing the savings onto us, the consumersā¦ The corporate Execs are probably already counting their higher end-of-year bonuses due to the greater profitsā¦
The price of lithium has increased by 900% since the end of 2021 so a 20% drop is nothing.
Tesla has been dropping the price of their cars for at least the last 6 months.
I have noticed the price of many things dropping so maybe this inflation is about over with. That includes food which hasnāt really gone down in price but certain items are perpetually on sale now at price more like they used to normally cost.
Copper is another one dropping. That is used in both electric cars and the infrastructure used to charge them.
Hereās the last 5 years, in Chinese Yuan/ton. As mentioned above, the recent dip is after a huge increase:
Itās not the Lithium price that is allowing the price to go downā¦ Tesla cut prices for some of its Model Y and Model 3 vehicles in the U.S. for the sixth time this year to juice demand as competition among electric-vehicle makers heats up around the world. Tesla has slashed prices in numerous markets worldwide to stay ahead of legacy U.S. competitors such as Ford Motor while it strives to catch up with various Chinese automakers.
Itās all Market Economics. Like when Walmart moves into a new market location, the lower prices drives the competition out of business, or they get a much bigger market shareā¦
That contradicts your own postā¦
I agree that competition is EV driving prices down. I disagree that this will result in higher profits for execs.
Waiting for other type of batteries to hit the market.

Lots of discussion about lithium, todayās WSJ has an article about the ānickel pickleā, the issues around producing nickel, which accounts for more GHG than lithium production.
No, itās all smoke and mirrorsā¦ The prices dropped so Tesla can grab a greater market share, make their cars more affordable, not because the price of lithium went downā¦
You wait and see. Bonuses are not just based on increased profits, but a whole gambit of factors, greater sale volume, thereby projected future events, total returns to shareholders, earnings per share, return on assets or similar benchmarks. Like I said, many, many factors, some not even definableā¦ Remember all the hub-bub about investing in Derivatives, Still to this day, most economic analyst cannot define oneā¦ but folks make and lost fortunes based on themā¦
This is one of the statements, where I say, āWait for itā¦ā LoLā¦
I really donāt care what car company CEOs are paid. It doesnāt reduce my bank account in any way nor does it affect my life at all.
The USD price of lithium ion batteries went up near the beginning of this year of our Lord 2023 for the first time.
Donāt be a trouble maker and if you are going to cast aspersions, get the quote right. āin the year of our Lordāā¦
Neither phrase is used much anymore outside of religious groups.
I meant to say our Lord. I fixed it. The US Constitution uses this language!
Just as a side note, I mentioned there have been two house fires around here attributed to the batteries. Then our land fill caught fire and burned for a couple weeks before they could get it out. The fire Marshall believes it was due to disposal of lithium batteries. Regardless of the price, this can only worsen.
Yeah, when our forefathers, the framers of the constitution, used this method of dating, it was to show the divinity of this sacred document to establish the law of the land in this new nation.
Not as youāve used it, in a debatable display to add value to your moot point without rhyme or reasonā¦
So, hereās another use of an old expression, āBless your Heartā¦ā
Folks can get a little touchy on the religion topic, probably the origin for the advice to never discuss religion or politics at a family gathering. Iāll risk violating this advice for the sake of a humorous story . A month or two ago I went a Good Friday church-related meeting, & happened to mention that many historians believe the paintings seen of the Savior on church alters are based on the shroud of Turin image. Totally innocent comment, thought it might be interesting, & pertinent to the day. . Apparently this theory isnāt widely believed, certainly didnāt go over well, had to leave quickly ā¦ lol ā¦
It was actually added by a scribe after the constitution was voted on. No draft copies of the Constitution contain that wording. It was very common wording 200+ years ago. Really not used much since the mid to late1800ās. Itās like when someone sneezes and we say āGod Bless Youā.

Iām not much for art history and couldnāt tell one painting from another but most of those are just copies of what the famous painters were commissioned to do. Just their rendition. Nothing for anyone to get excited aboutā¦
