Not on this coast, unless you limit your business to prom nights and ditch days. SF Bay Area locals are loathe step foot on such a vehicle. All prof. driving etiquette would be sacrificed, as these are reserved for [locus of regional/civic pride] real cars on real cables.

I’m so glad others already have mentioned the Checker Airport Limo. Just imagine the fun a talented custom shop could have re-fitting one of those (and they’ve GOTTA still be available in CA!) with a fabulous modern luxury interior, sunroofs, etc etc – all within that unmistakable classic Checker bodystyle. As far as the mechanicals – Checkers were built to fit just about any engine and drivetrain ever manufactured anywhere by anyone, weren’t they? I bet you could easily fit things that weren’t yet invented (electrid/hybrid/yada yada) under that hood!

My thought as well. Here’s a goal for 'ya:

though the ones that have roofs are probably easier to come by.

I am aware of Yosemite having double Decker buses that were nature friendly. These were back in the 1970’s and looked to be replicates of the Old English Style. The lower level was closed with just window and the upper level was open air. This was before Yosemite Park and Curry Company concessation were I believe sold off to RCA. I believe the buses stayed under the National Parks. The buses were just replaced one year with no explanation so I am not sure what happened to them. I would suggest calling the Park Service directly. The buses held probably at least 60 people, but you could use the space for i.e. batteries or possibly sleeping berths.

Hello, I run a green limousine service in Santa Cruz, and could possibly team up with Jay to build an eco-wine tour bus/limousine. I have lots of ideas and a lot of know how and experience in the business. You can go to:
www.greenlimousine.net to contact me. I’m looking foward to hearing from you. Thank you, Tom and Ray! I love your show, and have been listening for years! Rafael, “King of the road.”

Buy a Hummer Stretch limousine.

The Dodge Sprinter is a proven vehicle, and with a Mercedes Disel, it will run very economically. We rode in one for several days in Bankok, Thailand when we were on vacation. Your typical airport shuttle bus (large vans from GM, Ford or Chrysler) would do, but they use a lot of gas.

How about a small used school bus with nice replacement seats and a wild California paint job?
