As to screening, that’s not entirely true. Neither C-Span nor the Don Geronimo Show on KHTK out of Sacramento screens calls.
Not paid UN dues in 30 years? I wish!! America pays way more than our fair share, and for what? The UN has done nothing but suck our money into corrupt dictatorship countries while denouncing the US and Israel, blaming us for every problem around the world.
What a waste. The UN is a joke and should be abolished tomorrow.
The calls are carefully screened for their entertainment value. Cartalk is, in fact a radio show that seeks listeners, ratings, mass appeal. Many of the callers have been to several mechanics and made several attempts to fix a problem, they explain this in their calls. One of the values is, because of the listenership, a caller with a problem will find a solution in this forum. You have painted the callers and listeners with a broad brush, stereotyped us and made many many assumptions. That is unfair and intolerant. Do you really know the demographics of callers? Their lineage, income, personal and professional goals, the income of their parents? I have heard the show from Montreal. It’s not at all funny, interesting or entertaining for the layperson like me. I, myself have used this forum to seek answers like why did the cabover die… and some other stuff I forget now. But the result was an informative entertaining thread of responses. Sure, if you want technical answers, call a technical show. If you want to be entertained to laugh, listen to Cartalk… and watch Disney.
You started this thread with a long-winded sneer.
Hear! Hear! Though, it is kind of fun to read in a Jerry Springer kind of way. When I think about how I may need to improve my own personal outlook and attitude, I can always return to this thread and count myself lucky.
I can’t stop. It’s like looking at a train wreck. They used one of my puzzlers on the show. I have been in the Army for 23 years as a Military Paralegal in the Light Infantry and Armored Cavalry. I can think back to a day or two when I’ve worked a hard day.
Further, when you use generalizations and speak of ‘dumbing down’, then fail to display a grasp on general grammar, punctuation or fundamental pursuasive skills, you lack credibility.
turak2…
If you think the USA is so dumbed down then why do you not leave and go live in a different country?
This has nothing to do with America being dumbed down.
Can you not realize that the dumbing down is a worldwide issue and not just in America?
Do you not realize that some of your faults and issues can be considered you being dumbed down?
You really need to use common sense, logic and reasonable thinking when posting. Also do not base your beliefs on emotion but instead on facts. If you apply these then your posts will seem somewhat intelligent.
Perhaps his problem is that he IS married…and needs to get something. Been there, suffered that.
I want all my Canadian friends to know that we realize that Turak2’s ferocious rants against us are not representative of all Canadians…including a sister I happen to have who’s lived there for 30+ years. I like and enjoy Canada, in my 59 years have met only good people there. And comments like we “refused to pass the healthcare bill” and “not paid [our] UN dues in over 30 years” make it very clear that this individual really needs to get out more…and read far more. I wonder who he thinks has been paying for the UN all these years. And I wonder how long it will take him to discover that the healthcare bill got passed (much to my chagrin).
Pardon me but what in the heck are you talking about? Your reply has nothing to do with my post. I am not being mean but if it was meant to please explain.
meaneyedcatz, the above reply was in response to the OP, not you.
"Since when has any car manufacturer supplied car owners with all the “various educational sources that will inform you how your car works”?"
I have found the factory service manual to tell me just about everything I could want to know about my car. It has “that year-make-and model’s technical specifications” so when I check out a part or system I can “fully understand how {my} car ‘works’” I have posted on the forums here for the info I could not find in my manual, and so far have been able to do every maintenance and repair I have needed (which has sadly been quite a few).
My error. Since rustedthrough had replied to my post instead of creating a stand alone I must have misinterpreted.
Talking about dumb, I would like to say something about car horns: they serve only one purpose and that is to irritate. And the law says that we have to have one on every car… and they have to work. We are thinking about repealing that law here in Texas. We never use the horn…if someone does something stupid we don’t magnify the stupidity by honking, we fire a warning shot over the hood of the car…it rarely requires a second shot.
Sure, you can repeal that law in Texas, where there are no hills, no curves, and when prisoners run away from the work farm they’re still in line-of-sight for three days.
Try driving a two-lane (and that’s giving it the benefit of the doubt), undivided, twisting, mountainous, guardrail-less road. If it doesn’t occur to you within the first mile or two to lay a little blast on the horn before rounding each blind curve, just to let anyone who might be coming the other way know not to crowd the center of the road, your brain needs its fluids topped up.
Popular Science back issues are available somewhere online. Last year, I downloaded them all, and happily read all the columns, from the Model-T days until the column stopped. It was fun!
Thanks for the heads up. I will call her for sure.
I think the colon is in close proximity to the original poster.
What? Huh? Oh, you mean THAT colon!
turak2, have you seen this?
