I recall gazing in the window at the local Studebaker dealership, and wanting one desperately.
When they adopted square headlight assemblies for '64, I thought that they were even better-looking.
I am a fan of the Avanti, need the R3 engine option! Always watched Mr Ed, sponsored by Studebaker. I had an Avanti, unfortunately 1:25 scale from AMT.
Though one of my fantasies though is a restomod 57-61 Hawk coupe. I like fins.
I always like them, very clean design compared to what was on the street in '63.
I agree. Unfortunately, a great design couldn’t save the company.
… and, according to legends, Raymond Loewy & his small team of very talented assistants came up with the basic design in 40 days, and then finalized it over a long weekend in Palm Springs.
I listened to an audio podcast (maybe a couple years ago, www.agcoauto.com) that had a classic-car expert and the show’s host discussing interesting stories about the Avanti. Unfortunately I don’t recall the podcast’s date’ but if somebody is interested, they may be able to find it using the search feature on that website.
One of my favorite car for looks.
