A few weeks ago I asked for advice on a new timing belt for a 2001 AUDI A8L, 4.2 Quatro. I was told that $1K was a reasonable price for replacement, including the water pump, tensioners, etc.
I contacted 6 foreign car repairs shops in Tucson, AZ for quotes. The quotes ranged from $1065 to $2575!! I had it repaired at the lowest price which included everything, parts, sales tax, etc.
