On my 2006 Hyundai Azera with a 3.8 liter V6…I hear slight clicking noise when accelerating… only when the engine is cold. Is this something I should be concerned about? We are near the end of the 60K Factory warranty…I asked them to check it when they did some other warranty work and the mechanic said he “could not duplicate the problem”. So should I Ask them to check it out again??
Thanks,
J. Ries
Was the car left at the dealership overnight so they could test drive it cold?
One guess would be that the engine has a little piston slap if it goes away within a half minute or a little longer. As the piston warms and expands it fits the cylinder better. A little piston slap is harmless and your engine should have a normal lifespan.
Another possibility is a noisy timing chain but less likely in my view because the noise goes away with a warm engine.
Your mechanic should have known to present you with these as possibilities.
They had the vehicle for 6 hours to replace the front control arms.So I assumed the engine was cold when they test drove it and reported that they could not duplicate the problem…
