I change the oil every 4 to 5k miles. I am not going by the engine destroying oil life monitor.
So that will get me 52k miles of oil changes, maybe more. That should get me to a time when hopefully this whole mess is straightened out.
I’ve used the OLM since it was first available to me in my 1998 Regal. We’ve continued to use it on our 2003 Silhouette, 2005 Accord, 2009 Cobalt, 2010 Cobalt, and 2019 Odyssey. We never had an oil related engine problem. In fact, when I traded the Accord in with 187,000 miles, the used car dealer said the drive train as in fantastic condition.
The only oil life monitor I’ve ever had is the rudimentary Toyota/Lexus 5k mile monitor. But, even with the sophisticated OLMs that are used by GM and some other mfrs, I’ve never heard any valid claims that an engine was “destroyed” by following the OLM.
Could be because most people only keep their vehicles 150k miles or less.
But those vehicles live on with other owners. Not like they went to the scrap yard after the original owner sold or traded it in…
I’ve had numerous GM vehicles that I either bought new or lightly used and I followed the OLM. They rust out after 20 years with perfectly running engines…
Neither one of us is going to win this argument. Some will do only the necessary maintenance and others will go beyond it. Its just in our blood ro care for equipment. I usually change oil at about 50% on the OLM. When i traded my riviera with 520k on it, the salesman asked about my oil change habit, then slapped his knee and said i knew it. I think though the new overworked four cyl turbos need all the help they can get and oil is cheap compared to engines and batteries. Onto transmissions with lifetime fluid changed every 30,000.
I had a Dodge Ram, the engine held only 4 quarts of conventional engine oil, 3,000-mile service interval.
Your truck’s engine has an 8-quart capacity. With synthetic oil, the oil must be changed every 4,000 miles? That’s progress.
Not trying to sway anyone, just voice my position. I have some vehicles where the engine design contributes to faster breakdown or my usage profile makes me change it more frequently. I adapt to the situation 
It’s kind of like that George Carlin bit about driving speeds- I have friends that are way over the top and would say your regimen is not caring for your equipment well enough. In addition to very frequent oil changes, their idea of vehicle care includes waxing things under the hood. Anything less is inadequate and careless. Most everyone thinks they are doing what is necessary and makes them comfortable…
oil viscosity is like so many specifications in that there’s an acceptable range. No 20x20x1" air filter is exactly 20x20x1
A drum of 5w20 synthetic is 1200 dollars at O’Reilly auto. Not saying I have a drum coming to store on Friday but not saying I do not either.
Oil does not go bad, it also can be used to barter. Tough times ahead.
Do you keep a closet full of dehydrated food too?
Econ 101. Cash money is a medium of exchange. How could i even lift a drum of oil? At least i know where to get one if i need it.
It can go bad if not sealed. The oil will absorb moisture if exposed to air long enough.
so you’re also stocking up on gold, ammunition and MREs . . . ?
