i have a 1998 chevy blazer 4.3 4wd v6 about 130000 miles on it.there is no chk engine light on at all.some reason it takes long time for it to get up to speed.and i can’t figer out why that is i did replace spark plugs in it…
and car does run little routh
was it acting up before you changed the plugs, or did it start after?
Define “long time for it to get up to speed”.
b
it was doing it before i change the plugs
The problem here is that there’s not enough information and way too many possibilities. It could be an ignition problem, a fuel problem, or a worn out motor. Since a worn out motor will cause poor power but won’t typically store a code, I’d suggest beginning by doing a compression check. If the compression is good, check the fuel line pressure. These are basic and simple tests that’ll tell you whether it’s worth it to proceed to the ignition. Then you can begin to look at the ignition system.
However, in truth I think the smartest thing for you to do is take it to a reputable shop. They have the skills to check each of the systems that could cause this type of problem. You can, if you like, ask them just for the diagnosis, but you need to understand that you’ll need to pay for the diagnostic time. If you do this, do it up front. They might choose to decline the work, because often when you begin to diagnose a problem you’ll need to fix a few things to finish. For a simple example, sometimes if you change really bad sparkplugs, you discover other ignition problems.
Poor state of tune, clogged air filter, worn engine, slipping drivetrain, clogged catalytic converter , etc are some of the possibilities.
A lot more info would be needed to even begin being able to narrow the guessing down.
If it was my vehicle I’d run a compression test and vacuum test on it to make sure the engine is solid and that the car doesn’t have an exhaust restriction.
Or valve problems.
When you try to accelerate, does the engine rev high without the car actually accelerating? Or does the engine not rev high in the first place?
First, has it always done this, or is this new?
90’s Blazers weren’t exactly known for being fast, after all…
i did have the tranmmission replace because it was slipping really bad and locking up.
i did forget to tell you guys this.more i drive the car longer it takes for it to get up to speed
That makes it sound more like a clogged cat. Ask your shop to measure the exhaust system back pressure. Or sometimes it is easier to just measure the intake manifold vacuum using the appropriate procedure, which will usually reflect a clogged cat.
This symptom could be caused by any number of things, as mentioned above. The brakes could be dragging, who knows? But when I hear that symptom, the first thing I think of is either the engine isn’t getting the volume of air and fuel flow it requires (air filter/fuel filter/fuel pump), or it isn’t able to move the exhaust gasses out the tailpipe quickly enough (cat or muffler clog).
