Hello everybody, I have just bought a Suzuki Liana 1.6i 4wd with 107ps, petrol, manual.
I want and need to do the regular maintenance but I have concerns about the oil type.
The user manual says 5w30 and 5w40 would suit the best but I wonder if 10w40 and 15w40 would be ok, and for those that I found that are 5w30 and 5w40 most of them say diesel oil so I would like to know what would happen if I put that type of oil in petrol engine.
Is this vehicle new and under warranty?
The definitely do not experiment with different oils. I do not know what dealers and warranty experience is like where you live, but I prefer to have dealership perform maintenance while under warranty.
If this is an older car with high mileage and is using oil, experiment if you wish, I would not.
The 5W-30 should be fine, just change at time/milage specified in the owners manual.
Use of an oil labeled for high milage vehicles might be beneficial. Check oil level often, add oil as necessary.
My V8 truck specification is 5w-20, zero oil use at 70,000 miles.
Why are you doubting the people who built the vehicle ?
Use the oil recommended by Suzuki. They designed the engine to rune best with the 5W30. The other oil viscosities you mention are not optimal, only the 5W30 is.
+1
I don’t know whether that Suzuki’s little engine has Variable Valve Timing (VVT), but if it does, its VVT will only function as it was designed to do if you use oil of the same viscosity that the mfr specifies.
That means not all say diesel oil, which means there is the proper oil available.
what do you think about shell helix hx8 5w30?
That is for High performance engines which your Suzuki is not . Is this your first vehicle ?
yes, what about ELF EVOLUTION 900 SXR
Isn’t that racing engine oil ? You are making this too difficult . Even house brands will be just fine . You are not in the USofA because Suziki has been gone for years . Your local parts store can sell you oil that meets what your vehicle needs.
ELF is a European oil company, and I am not sure that their products are sold in The US–where almost all of the forum members reside. As was suggested, you should go to a parts store and ask them which oils are appropriate for your car.
@MilanS02 It seems that this Suzuki Liana was discontinued around 2007 . So don’t go putting LED lights in it like you did in your other thread , You don’t need the problems that you might have since it did not have LED to start with.
That’s a funny burger joke
Will do, thank you

Concur w/above comments to follow the owner’s manual requirements. When they provide more than one, they usually suggest to match the oil spec to the climate the car is driven. Are you doing that? If your car is required to use full-synthetic oil, make sure to do that also.
