My car’s engine has almost 98000 miles on it. I have problems with a lifter. Has anyone else had the same proble? I am trying to find out if it is an isolated problem or a common one. Thank you to anyone who can share some information.
When I was a service writer, Subarus came in regularly with this problem. We’d switch them to a heavier oil, 15W40, and it offered some relief, but was probably ill-advised.

It’s a rattling. Dealership says I need a new motor. They said the tech said he thinks that one of the compression rings is broken. What I need to know is if I choose to put in a used engine, will the same problem crop up in the future.
