have a 1997 nissan pickup.2.4 liter automatic don’t happen all the time.but sometime i can take a ride some where and cut truck off.and it will crank in park.but if i shift to neutral it will crank any idea by the way truck have 270000 mile on it .guess i need to retire this puppy.

I think that we are missing a key word somewhere.
Can you clarify exactly what happens (or doesn’t happen), and when these events take place?
I am guessing that the neutral safety switchneeds to be replaced, but that is just a supposition without some additional clarification.
sorry about that . will not crank in park sometime. if i shift to neutral it will crank.
