We have a 2000 Subaru Legacy with under 90,000 miles on it. We’ve taken it three times to a mechanic for the same problem and he’s stumped. The check engine light is on and it stalls easily and sometimes seems to jump and chug, particularly shortly after we’ve started driving (the more we warm it up the better, but warming up doesn’t eliminate the problem). Any ideas?
What code(s) are associated with the engine light being on? A stumped mechanic can end up costing you lots of money, take it somewhere else. If you live in a major metropolitan area, there is probably in independent shop that specializes in Subarus.
If you take the car to Auto Zone, Advance Auto, O’Reilly, NAPA, or some other parts retailers, they will scan the OBD2 system for trouble codes–free of charge. Then, come back here to post the specific codes. The format will be along the lines of P0123.
