I have a 1984 dodge d150 ramcharger i just bought and it has all sorts of problems im trying to fix as part of a learning process for me. one problem is it squeals when i first start it when i get on the gas. the faster the rpms the louder the squeal
Slipping belt. Either because the belt is old (likely, given your “all sorts of problems” description) or because the belt is not properly tightened. I’d replace the belt anyway, because squealing = damage from friction.
If this '84 has a serpentine belt, I’d put the tensioner on the list as a candidate also.
One thing to check for would be a locked up fan clutch. While the engine is off, grab ahold of a fan blade and try to turn it. If you can’t without considerable force, then your fan clutch is locked up.
