1996 Dodge van 2500. At times there is a sputtering sound from under the hood. It happens mostly while going down hill. I can’t realy feel the engine shake. It was dying but we put on a new fuel pump yesterday, but it is sputtering sometimes today.
This could indicate a leak in the exhaust system.
I don’t believe it is exhaust, sometimes I can drive it 500 miles and it won’t do it. For a long time it would only do it when the gas was low, today I had 3/4 tank, and it sputtered.
Why don’t you check the exhaust any way. How about the fuel filter?
I just drove the van and I don’t hear any noises. The only fuel filter it has is on the fuel pump in the gas tank, and we replaced both of them yesterday.
