Back to the original subject…yes, speed cameras are being installed in school zones. I can verify this. Last week my 17 year old was photographed doing 29mph in a school zone. The infraction notice came in the mail yesterday.
Do you mind sharing the cost with us?
In my opinion certain driving laws need to be standardized in all 50 states and in US territories.
Will that happen, has not happened during the past 120 years, so I won’t hold my breath.
$243.
Fortunately camera infractions are not reported as part of your driving record so the already high insurance rates will not be affected.
Just curious, will you (or your son) reduce spending in order to pay the $243? Or is it a small enough expense there’s no need to reduce spending to keep your budget in balance? Or do you plan to challenge it?
How is that any of your business ? If you asked me that you would not like to hear my reply!
Thank you for your answer and the information about insurance. This helps a lot.
Really? What is the cost of an initial consultation for a lawyer?
Much more than the fine.
Don’t most drivers who challenge minor offenses like traffic tickets represent themselves? That seems to be the case in my area.
Why challenge? What’s the basis?
It’s ok w/me if ticketed drivers don’t want to ask for a hearing. Suggest to wait on this issue until @asemaster has a chance to chime in.
It’s just that challenging a speed camera ticket is difficult, they have a photo of the car and readout of the radar, hard to claim a mistake was made.
I have no experience with challenging a speed-camera ticket, so I’ll defer to the experts here who have. It seems like it is certainly possible a mistake could be made. Didn’t our esteemed poster @clueless report on the court-results of a similar traffic-camera ticket ?
My case was a lot different, George. But you are right, I think he can fight it. Wouldn’t hurt I guess.
I was captured by a school bus camera plus a state trooper.
I’m still speechless as to how my lawyer beat the case because the camera clearly showed I had enough time to stop for the bus, and the arms were out for a period of time when I drove pass on the other side of the road.
The irony is: I told the lawyer after watching the video to forget about fighting it as I’m never gonna escape this. And he said he’s going to challenge it anyways.
Just to be clear, I haven’t made any recommendations. Asking is all.
And may I add: I bought a thank you gift for my lawyer. I will bring it to him tomorrow. This particular lawyer saved my butt twice when the odds were greatly against me.
Cars, traffic tickets, legal system. Many, many mysteries.
That was a citation written by an officer.
There is an old ploy used for beating a traffic citation: Attorney will request a jury trial, and the court will dismiss the case. I don’t think that would be possible with a civil infraction caught by a traffic camera.
Interesting stuff, Naveda. Can you answer this question of mine as I’m curious?
The school bus sent me a letter stating I violated their bus and the fine was $250. The trooper ticketed me upon catching me violating the bus.
So my question is: when the judge dismissed the case, does the school receive an update about this so that they don’t keep bothering me for the $250?
Because from my understanding: my case involved two separate consequences. 1. Trooper citation. 2. School bus citation.
Now how would anyone know the answer to that ? Ask this Lawyer you have .
